The "Underdog" Fundraiser
Here at 3rd Coast, we are dedicated to helping Labradors and Lab mixes that need rescuing. Often times, this means that we are taking in the "Underdog" who needs extensive surgery, heartworm treatment or rehabilitation outside of the normal veterinary care. We have created this Underdog Fundraiser to help offset the costs of these dogs.
Our Featured Underdog: Ray
Ray is a blind 8 year old black Labrador Retriever who came to us as a stray from Genesee County Animal Control.
When Ray came into our care back in July, he was heartworm postive. After four months of painful heartworm treatment, we are happy to say he is now heartworm negative! We thought Ray would be ready to go to his "furever home" by Christmas, but he is not out of the woods yet. Ray went to an ophthalmologist last week and was diagnosed with Progressive Retinal Athrophy (PRA). In addition, he has a detached lens in his right eye, and a partially detached lens in the left. This puts him at high risk of developing glaucoma. The ophthalmologist recommended removing Ray's eyes to prevent further pain. This is an extremely difficult decision for 3CLR, but we want what is best for this sweet senior boy. The procedure will take place on December 20.
We anticipate Ray's veterinary bills to be around $2,000 in total.
